As a person who has been robbed three times on holiday I can speak from the heart when I advise you to be so careful when you are abroad as there are people out there whose job it is to pray on vulnerable tourists and part them from their cash.
The old scams unfortunately never fail to work and they count on your being relaxed and in holiday mode. You know how it is, they ask you for the time or more information and while they are talking their accomplice is thieving your camera or your purse.
Or a crowd of children come begging at a restaurant table – only once they have gone do you realise that so has your phone.
People rely on you being off your guard so make it your job to ensure that you are always on your guard. The usual precautions are good ones; don't take out too much money, never flash your cash and don't wear expensive jewellery or designer handbags or clothes. If you look like you have money you will be a sitting target.
You can never be on your guard 24 hours a day, but by being careful and taking the necessary steps to protect yourself you can make your trip safer. After all, the holiday is expensive enough without losing your wallet too!
