An alarm system of some sort is also to be recommended. This should be one that has sensors in rooms, so that when it is set, it will instantly detect any motion should a break in occur. These alarms can either be just of the make a noise variety, or connected to a security company somewhere.
Enrolling in a neighbourhood watch scheme is also a very valid method of keeping your home safe and secure. This way, the neighbourhood as a whole will all look out for one another.
